Finding a Good Psychic
Legitimate, professional
psychics focus on the personality and core issues of the client, rather
than looking exclusively at "the future". This can be a bit
distracting to the client who is looking for a bit of "fortune
telling". Serious psychics consider "fortune telling" to be
mere entertainment, and some refuse to consider the future at all. These
days they often advertise themselves as "intuitive counselors" or
"advisors" to avoid the "fortune teller" baggage that
is associated with the use of the word "psychic".
A good psychic usually
starts with events that they feel are still unfolding now. They look at
finances, love life and work. They make predictions after they have
established a pattern. At that point, they may ask: "Now, do you have
any questions you would like to ask?" At this point a good psychic
will be gifted with a bemused expression that tells her that she has
already answered most of what the client came to know. It is then time to
recap or clarify minor details. Sometimes a significant question or aspect
of it will come to mind. It does help to think of a few questions ahead of
time, because it clears your mind, making you that much easier to read.
Scams and Frauds
If any psychic speaks to
you of "curses", and offers to remove them for a fee, grab your pocketbook and head for an exit. This is never
legitimate. "Curse removal" is an absolute scam and it is
against the law.
There are other scams,
"blessed" candles that sell for outrageous amounts of money
(anything over $30 unless the candle is huge, or is an art-piece),
"exorcisms" and other questionable practices. Many practices
that I might consider fraudulent at worst, or useless at best, are held in
high esteem by some of my colleagues, but you can bless your own candles,
and you should learn how to clear the energy in your home yourself (that
technique is taught in the book). If in doubt ... pass on it. Come to
the discussion groups and ask about it.
What can I expect to pay?
Reasonable fees range from $30 to
$300 and the fee is usually set by the demand for the psychic’s service
(famous psychics are going to charge a lot more).
What type of
psychic reading should I choose?
Each psychic chooses his
or her method of reading because it fit with his or her own personality,
philosophy or needs. Often, the style of reading will itself indicate
something of what motivates the psychic. Each system has its own strengths
and weaknesses, as each psychic will. Tarot readers often find it
difficult to time events, for example. Astrology can be very precise, but
it requires an analytical mind with a good memory for details. Some
astrologers choose this tool because they need not be as intimate with
their clients as a palmist or psychometrist must be.
Where should I look
to find a good psychic?
There is usually a local
"new-age" newspaper or bookstore where psychics advertise. In
some communities you may find them listed in the Yellow Pages under
"Psychic Services" or "Astrologers". Try Google.
Just type in "psychic" and the name of your town.
A local psychic or
holistic fair is a good place to comparison shop. You can discover who the
local readers are, or see a visiting psychic who you can’t see locally.
Use your own psychic ability when you shop for a psychic. When you walk
around, notice who catches your eye. If you feel bad about someone, trust
your first impression. They may be a good reader, but they may not be
right for you. If you are uncomfortable or suspicious, the reading will
reflect that.
Most psychics at a
reputable fair will have cassette tapes and recorders on hand. You will be
amazed at just how much you forget, so get your readings taped if
possible.
You will know right away
if you are "connecting" with your psychic. She or he will bring
up issues and situations that you can identify immediately. A good reading
will confirm what you already know in your heart, because the answer was
within you all along. It will clarify your options, but do not expect your
psychic to make choices for you. Your advisor is human too, with human
hopes, dreams, and biases. Bear this in mind with any counselor.
